Waking up this morning to read in the Washington Post ‘What Europes’s push to simplify chargers means to you’ by Chris Velazco was music to my ears. Not only is this great for the environment, but I am sure it will help end cable anxiety that we all experience from time to time.

Entering into a provisional agreement in June that will require most products to use the same USB-C charging port, including companies using proprietary technology like Apple.

While companies have until the fall of 2024 to modify their products to be compliant, only laptop manufacturers have a little longer to ensure they are all charged by a standard USB-C cable.

Environmentally Friendly

This is a game-changer for the environment. If you are like me, I have a draw full of cables, some dating back nearly 20 years, just in case they fit somewhere on a new device.

Once this breakthrough is commonplace, I can return them to an e-bin as e-waste at my supermarket and feel like I am taking another small step for the environment.

Be gone with your cable anxiety, to leave the house with my Kindle, Chromebook (already charged via a USB-C port), and in the future, possibly my iPhone is an excellent pipedream I have…
